I went into some deep thought after visiting a very famous Temple in Mumbai recently, and realized that this is the feeling that I've felt a numerous times before also while visiting these kind of famous temples all around India ...
Why do we visit these temples.
isn't God everywhere??
What do we get from visiting a temple..
Peace? don't you feel peaceful at your home.. in your bathroom?
Why do we have to keep visiting these places at regular intervals
Why??
If I ask anybody these questions, the very common answers are:-
BUT, should we actually keep visiting them / are we benefited? ...that's another view.
The temple idol is located at the center of the temple (where the waves are at max). Ideally the temple should be build after placing the idol. Also there are copper plates (with Vedas written on them) buried under the main idol. These absorbs earth magnetic waves and radiates into the surroundings.
So, if you regularly visit the temple and walk clockwise around the main idol, your body absorb the waves and more positive energy is induced into you.
The ringing of the bells and the chanting of prayers takes a devotee into trance, thus not letting his mind distract. When done in groups, this helps people forget personal problems for a while and relieve their stress.
The fragrance from the flowers, the burning of camphor give out the chemical energy further aiding in a different good aura. The effect of all these energies is supplemented by the positive energy from the idol.
There are a lot of other scientific reasons to visit a temple. There are a lot of temples across india there you will definitely find peace and positive energy. Our grandparents and their peers knew these benefits and that was the reason why we are taught to pay these visits regularly. Yes, devotion and belief is also one of the reason.
Not all of the temples in Inda are located/built the Vedic way, many are now place strategically ... to maximize the revenue. Ideally these temples should be located in a peaceful surrounding and neighbourhood - these days prople have commercialised the temple business. There are hotels / restaurants / hawkers / malls / shops being constructed around temples to get most of the earning opportunity from the devotees.
Don't be fooled that these facilities are opened to help the devotees visiting the temples. They have a single purpose - monetary. That's the reason these are overpriced.
The moment you will start approaching the temple area, these people will surround you trying to make a sale... forget the peace, just make sure you don't loose your temper. Everybody is trying to lure the customers in some or the other way ... People are here to visit the temple... not for shopping!!
Also, in many of the famous temples, you will have to wait for your turn in line to get in front of the idol, sometimes for days.. sometimes for hours. Finally when you get your turn.. a rude priest or a security guard on duty will rush you out of the place within seconds. Positive Energy/Magnetic Waves? Don't think so... I just hope you don't loose much of your body's energy in this whole process.
I don't understand why people travel across India, to places like Jammu, Mumbai, Tirupati etc. just to be a part of crowd, stand in line for hours for a meeting with God which won't last even a minute? Sometimes I feel bad about these people.
VIP Darshan (Visit) - This is the most annoying and frustrating part in a temple. If you are a known personality, a VIP or a really rich guy... you just have to throw some money to the temple administration, or use your sources .. and .... you get to cut all the lines, protocols, and go directly inside the temple. Stay for as long as you want (while security will make sure to keep the gates shut with people still waiting in lines). Why this discrimination at holy places? why some people get to go directly inside an others common / poor public wait in queue (yes, sometimes for days, with no food, limited wates, no ventilation, in enormous heat, everybody sweating around you). Why money is given importance over God? If money is superior to God, I guess... I'll just worship the money sitting in my wallet right now.
Did God in your own city refused to hear you out? Didn't you found peace in the temple ear your place (which is hopefully less crowded, and peaceful). The priests and the temple administration have made a business out of it and because of the blind faith, people will continue to visit them...
Temples in India get a lot of money in offerings, they don't even have to pay tax... If this is God's money.. then why not used to feed poor and needy people?
Let's assume you have a favorite eating joint somewhere (Restaurant/Hotel/etc), and you just love the food there. Each time you visit the place you are greeted by the nice and friendly staff.
Will you go there again (considering there are a lot of other awesome restaurants in the city)?
If your answer is NO .. then why do you visit those temples again?

Let's assume you have a favorite eating joint somewhere (Restaurant/Hotel/etc), and you just love the food there. Each time you visit the place you are greeted by the nice and friendly staff.
- They make sure you are seated comfortable.
- They make sure you are not made to wait long for food.
- They make sure the food is hot and healthy.
- They make sure to listen to any of your concerns (if any)
Will you go there again (considering there are a lot of other awesome restaurants in the city)?
If your answer is NO .. then why do you visit those temples again?
